About

"Canneto is by far Columbus’ best-known public artist. Sixteen of his large-scale sculptures now occupy publicly accessible spaces throughout the city. Although many of his fellow citizens may not know him by name, his soaring abstract sculptures are a familiar sight, vital to the cityscape in which they live. His sculptures are richly layered with meaning they exist in the tension distilled from a matrix of interwoven ideas. The tension between technology and nature is a recurrent theme in Canneto’s public work. In Intersect, which is constructed of both bronze and stainless steel, the theme is symbolized by the graceful intersecting forms themselves, as well as by the materials and the production methods the artist employed. For Canneto stainless steel connotes technology while bronze is closely allied with nature and ancient art traditions. The joining of the two metals in one work also presents the sort of technical challenges that have come to characterize many of Canneto’s major sculptures. The technical bravura and monumental scale of his public sculpture always fascinates and intrigues his viewers. Those who fail to look deeper, however, are deprived of fully experiencing the meaning of Canneto’s work. "
